02 Tahoe: indash cd changer quit taking cds. replaced by dealer, same thing!

I pulled the radio out to hook up an in-line FM modulator for an ipod.

after putting everything together, the radio quit taking CDs. It's the in-dash 6 CD changer.

I thought I may have turned it upside down and messed it up or something.

Went to dealer, bought new one, swapped the core, dealer programmed it.

The new radio/6 cd-changer still won't take CDs.

Do you guys have any suggestions?

How much did you pay for a new head unit? I would just go with an aftermarket...
