02 tahoe low coolant light on

I have an 02 tahoe 5.3 and the low coolant light came on. I have not checked the fluid level in the radiator yet but the coolant recovery tank is pretty low. I dont see any leaks on the ground either. Any ideas of what the problem might be. I plan to check the fluid level in the rad this afternoon.

i have a 01 and same just happened no leaks but faint smell of antifreeze / exhaust does not smell like antifreeze

I have not been able to smell any antifreeze. I added some coolant to the coolant tank 2 days ago and all has been ok, no leaks or low cool light. Dont know what to think at this point.
