Cruising at 75 mph fuel reads 1/4 tank all of a sudden lost power and coasted to shoulder of highway. The DIC reads 19 miles to empty. Tried to restart, now the battery is dead however interior lights are still on. Called AAA driver put some fuel and tried to jump start and still no start. Evidently the the battery was dead so he removed the battery cables and continued with jump charge for several minutes, reconnected the battery cables and redid the jump start and successfully it started and ran without problem to gas station. However after fueling up noticed the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on. There must a Code. It’s still runs and hasn’t stalled since. Any ideas of what may have happened are appreciated.

My first guess is a dead or compromised battery. That may be the root cause or it may be a symptom of an alternator that has problems. Many auto parts stores can test both components for you.
