AC Compressor Tick

Today leaving from a nice dinner, I jumped in my 2000 tahoe z71 and heard a tick. Just got the tahoe this passed weekend, so I wasnt sure what to expect. After getting home and inspecting, it is coming from my ac pump. it ticks when the ac is off. the pump wont engage when i turn the a/c on, but im pretty sure its low on freon(i just put in a new power steering pump a few days ago and accidentally cracked open the ac pump line and released some pressure in the pump). Not to sure if its the pump itself or if its just the cluth? im not a big a/c guy so I have no clue.

if your freeon is low the clutch wont engage anyways

if you cracked a line you likely drained the system, that's pretty good pressure in there and it drains quick

Probably the bearing in the compressor, pull the belt and spin it by hand and see if it has a small catch in it.... New Compressor/Dryer/Orifice tube/ refill in your future.....

turned out to be a bad belt, tension-er, as well as my power steering pulley not being put on all the way. but for some reason when i put my ear up to a screw driver on the compressor it sounded like the knock was within it. oh well, fixed now. now i just have a small belt squeak somewhere. guessing it has to do with my power steering pulley still. but a lot better than a knocking sound. -.- thanks tho guys. loving this forum already!

Yea, glad it was cheap, mine is a bad compressor tho...
