I have a 2005 Tahoe Z71 and I need to do something about my steering. I can move the wheel about 5-6" before the actual wheels start to turn.

This makes for a puckering drive to work on the twisty back roads as I'm constantly sawing at the wheel...its sooo delayed. Any ideas? new steering box? anything else I can do to tighten up this steering play and make it more responsive?

Thanks all,

Jeff

The chassis linkage for the steering needs to be inspected:
Tie rod ends, idler arm, etc... Everything that you see going from the steering gearbox to the wheels. Check your front wheel bearing for play, both upper & lower control arm ball-joints. Lots & lots of maintenance items to be addressed with regards to steering. Some folks spend $1000 to repair their steering and if something is neglected, there you will be in the median on 3-wheels as you tried to make a left hand turn when a front wheel hub separated.
