Depends. It can always be used as a ground connection. But is it the best grounding point for everything? No.

it's not so dumb question as you think you would be amazed on how many people think the neg terminal would be the best place :)

Using only the battery as ground can lead to a "ground loop" for feedback. It's best to use tha frame close to the installation or a grounding point.

another good location usually close to the battery is one on of the fender bolts. You can tuck an eyelet connector under them without them beeing seen much.

The reason i ask is that i have an optima battery with side and top posts. I plan on installing HID's in lows, highs and fogs this weekend. I also need to hook up my halo's in my headlight and fog housings. So, i need lots of power and ground wires. I bought some marine type battery terminals that i thought would be handy for the install so that all my wires run to the same location. Can i do this or should i just run seperate ground wires to the nearest ground location for each wire?

Directly to your batt is ok. Don't forget to fuse your power wire.

What happens if i don't fuse the power wires? Also not sure how to go about doing this. I'll have a total of 11 power wires...6 halo's, 2 led's and 3 ballasts. Do i splice all the power wires together and then fuse to the battery? Also, how big of a fuse?

On second thought, i think the power wires to the ballasts already have a fuse...maybe just splice into the ballast wire for the halo's and led's?
