I have a 99 Tahoe 4WD 5.7. Once every three or so months, I have a condition where in the morning, after the vehicle has sat all night, I try to start it and it will start up with a "vroom", like normal and die within one second. I try multiple times with same result. If I let it sit for 20-30 min and try again, it will start and run as if nothing is wrong. I was told by a mechanic that these engines shipped with the Single Port Fuel Injectors which were prone to leaking overnight and causing a flooding situation resulting in the symptoms I was having. Last fall, I replaced the SPFI with the newer, redesigned MPFI system, along with new plugs, wires and distributor, but the problem persists. Still doing this every three or so months. It happened yesterday and I noticed that after I was able to start it, my "security" light stayed on till I shut the engine off again. Now everything is back to normal. Runs great, no security light.
Any thoughts as to what is going on here?
Thanks for the help!

Chances are is a bad pass lock sensor thats in the ignition cylinder and or housing or EVO module (Electronic Variable Orifice Module )

Thanks, how would I go about diagnosing this? Will a scan reveal this?

Depends on the scan tool you have but for the most part it should have a dtc stored in the theft module and maybe the pcm and bcm

When it does it, unplug the electrical connector on the MAF sensor and see if it will crank back up and stay running....

I have the same issue on a 2002 Tahoe. The car started up and I notice the all the gauges flickering and the security light flashing, the battery light and check fuel light lit. Also with that the fuel gauge reads empty when the tank is 1/2 full. I drove the car home and turned it off and went back out and try to start it and would start and die after 1-2 seconds. I performed the 3 - 10 minute cycle of the switch on for 10 minutes with out starting the car and off for 5 seconds. The security light never quit flashing, the battery light and low fuel light lit with fuel gauge reading empty, but car will start. I am at wits end need help to go further. All help is appreciated.
