IIRC, all you'd need to do is pull the dash bezel. Once you have done that, removal of the cluster should be straight forward. A few bolts and plugs, then you're done

It is fairly easy as I just had mine repaired also. First of all....there is a recall on the stepper motors and if you have it repaired by a dealer it will be covered. You might check on that first. To get the dash out. First, turn your key to on , DON'T start your engine, then pull your shifter all the way down to low gear to get it out of the way. Then carefully pull on the dashboard benzel, It is just pushed in and held with spring clips and should pop off with very little persuasion. There are four small screws, two on each side, that need to be removed by using a socket and extension. ~ 8mm maybe 1/4" Then pull the dash cluster straight forward, there is one large plug in the back that pulls loose and there you are. The dash does NOT lose any data -like milage etc. If you are looking for someone to have this done, I'll get you the info on who did ours. Ours works great now !!! P.S. We found out about the recall AFTER we had ours repaired and since it wasn't done by a dealer......well......you know the rest I'm sure. Hope this helps Dave

Thanks guys,
I am going to try and pull it out tomorrow. I think I have about 86k on it, so it probably isn't going to be covered. I will let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks again
Matt

If you need someone to repair it for you. I can give you the name or link to the guy that repaired ours. I'm not sure if you're allowed to post info like that on here, but I found him on E-bay. It was like $125.00 to do the speedo and tach or if you wanted all 6 stepper motors done it was ~$145.00. He paid shipping one way. Ours works great now and we don't have to worry about whether the speed is correct or not.

I pulled it out and shipped it out already....to a guy we found on ebay, maybe the same guy. Thanks for the info on removing the panel, it was a snap. It's funny, we were using our GPS for a speedometer.

Hey....How'd your dash repair go ????

Man, everything went great. I just put it back in the other day. Nice to have the speedo back in, got tired of using the GPS for a speedo and having a huge hole in the dash.
Thanks for the info on how to pull it out, it was very simple.

Now, my check 4x4 light pops on once in a while. The 4wd works great, never any issues. I am trying to avoid taking to a shop in Germany only to have them tell me some insane price to reset the light.
Have you had your light come on?
