Manufacture date from VIN?

Hi,
Does anyone know how to tell the build date of our Tahoe from the VIN?
I know they use some letter/number code combination but I don't know how to read it.

Any members work for a dealer or GM that could help me out?

The only thing you can get from the VIN is the year of manufacture, represented by the tenth character.

B = 1981 F = 1985 K = 1989 P = 1993 V = 1997 1 = 2001 5=2005
C = 1982 G = 1986 L = 1990 R = 1994 W = 1998 2 = 2002 6=2006
D = 1983 H = 1987 M = 1991 S = 1995 X = 1999 3 = 2003 7=2007
E = 1984 J = 1988 N = 1992 T = 1996 Y = 2000 4= 2004 8=2008


17 digit VIN decoder:

Character/Meaning

1- Country of origin
2- Manufacturer
3- Vehicle type
4- Restraint or brake type
5, 6, 7- car line and body type
8- description of the engine
9-check digit
10- Year of the car
11- Assembly plant
12-17- Vehicle's "fingerprint". It's what differentiates it from all other vehicles.

You can't get the date from the vin UNLESS you give that vin to a dealer and have them put it in the system to get a readout of everything that was on that vehicle plus the exact build date and any work that's been done to it at a dealer.

Otherwise, the build date month/year is always on the sticker in the driver's door jamb. Won't give you a specific day, but will a month & year.
