need help diagnose grinding noise

HI! i am new to this Forum and thanks for the welcome msg Shaggy !

i just bought a 2005 chevy Tahoe LS 4dr 4x4 5.3L with 211000 kms on it

when i put it on 4x4 it makes a loud grinding sound and when i put it back to
2wd then no funny noise

sounds like it comes from front of vehicle but could be centre i wounder if it is
not the transfer case and afraid that is what the problem is

Help please !!!

It could be quite a few things from driveshaft u joints,wheel hubs or the front diff I had the same type of thing in my 99 and it was a $15 u joint don't know how Mechanically Inclined you are but it's easy to check u joints just crawl under the truck grab hold of the front drive shaft and try shaking it around just make sure the cars in park before you jump under it you will know if you have a shot u joint
