How difficult is it to replace the oxygen sensors? It this something that can be done by yourself? Do i need to reprogram anything?

i haven't done the ones on the tahoe yet, but its not hard. they may be a pain in the ass to get them to unscrew from the exhaust though. if the new ones already have connectors on them it should be really easy.

(the previous vehicle i bought the sensor to do you had to splice the old connector onto the new sensor. not sure how they come for the tahoe's)

Heat is your friend and an O2 socket comes in real handy! ($10 at Autozone, has a second hole to allow for the wiring) The wiring connectors are attached. Use a torch (I used a small propane one) to heat the area and remove the old O2 sensor and then put the new one in. It requires no reseting of your computer. Good luck!

Oxygen Sensors

They are easy to remove and install. I have an 04 Tahoe 5.3 with 106,000 miles and still original brakes front and back with only 50% wear. I don't drive on the xpressways much either, all around metro Atlanta stop and start traffic. I just drive like I don't have brakes, you know, like an old man...lol. Anyway my check eng light came on a couple of days ago. Stopped by Autozone and they hooked up their tool and it was one of my oxygen sensors on the right side and one further toward the back. Now that one is super easy to get to. First thing I did was pull in to the garage and put a fan under the truck to cool it all real quick. Then jumped underneath and srpayed the old one with wd40 and let sit 30 minutes. Came right off. DO NOT OPEN YOUR NEW SENSOR until you compare the connectors. Make sure its the exact same type connector. If you open the clear plastic baggy the new one is in Autozone told me they won't take it back if I open that baggy. It was the correct part. Also don't cut the wire off the old one just so you can remove it easier. You may still have check engine light on after installing and new one. Then you may want to test the old one to see if it was actually not working. Just make sure to thread the new one in by hand and put anti sieze lube on the threads. Once hand tight just snug it up good with a wrench or rachet. Started it up and drove it up the Xpressway for a test drive and after about 25 miles the check engine light turned off. You can also disconnect the battery for say 30 minutes and it will reset the light but it could come back on if something still wrong. THats why I drove mine to see if it turned off and it did. Was an easy fix and you can do it.
