I got a 2001 5.3l lt tahoe. i generally dont have to use 4x4 with it but i had it in 4lo to pull my mini van out when it was stuck and i could not get the truck to come out of 4lo when trying to go into 4hi or 2wd or auto 4wd the light would just flash and then kick back into 4lo the manual said it would only shift out of 4lo doing 0-3mph, i did that and it still wouldnt go i finally put it in nuetral and let it roll down my drive way and it went into 2wd. im guessing i may have a sensor going out in the xfer case but not sure. any help?

No it sounds fine, in order to go from low to high and back the transmission must be in neutral. It is best if it can roll slowly while doing the change between 2WD and either 4WD setting, so that the hubs can lock or unlock, but not completely necessary. I usually stage it from 2Hi to 4Hi and then 4Lo, and vice-versa. If you can't roll it while in neutral it will still work once you get going but the hub lock won't be immediate when you start moving. Of course 2Hi to 4Hi and back can be done below a certain low speed, maybe around 40mph, not sure. Anyway, like I said it doesn't sound like a mechanical error, more like an operator error, LOL. Tranny must be in neutral going between Low and High, if it was a mechanical shift assembly the transfer case would grind in protest, as its input should not be spinning.
