My new trailer is about to come in... 2-3 weeks away... I'm planning a trip from BC to Portland... approx 300-350 miles each way.

I'm spliting fuel costs based on how many people are coming with me and I'm towing a 16' enclosed trailer that weights approx 5-5500lbs when loaded and I will have myself and up to 4 extra passengers.

What I need to know is what kind of fuel mileage I can expect out of my 07 Suburban when I tow this kind of weight. I don't really care what it costs to make the trip I just need to be able to tell the other guys roughly what it will cost them so they know what to expect.

Any info or personal experiences would help a lot.

I average about 11 mpg when towing my quads. My trailer is only 6.5 x 10 feet. Average speed about 80 mph.

I'd expect about 10 mpg if you maintain 70mph. Get some trailer brakes if your towing all that weight.

I get about 11 mpg towing my 2 snowmobiles in a covered trailer and the trailer with both sleds is under 2000 lbs. thats still better than my old dodge that got only 7.

I also got around 11MPG in my Denali when towing an enclosed 2500lb cargo trailer, with 8 people and a dog...at 80-85MPH!

Hmmm... I was hoping it would be somewhat better than that... but then I knew it wasn't going to be great...

It's not going to be great. Depending on the day I get 9-11mpg towing a 24' pontoon that with the trailer weighs slightly over 4,000. I get around 9-10mpg towing a different 6,000lb boat/trailer. It is more aerodynamic than the pontoon and tows much better. Either way it isn't going to be great. Thats towing no faster than 65mph. More speed = more fuel. Especially when towing.

I have a Tahoe with the 4.8 liter engine. Towing about 4000 pounds worth of stuff in an enclosed trailor, I still get about 15.

Never towed with the LTZ.
However when I was pulling my 28' enclosed race car trailer with an '04 2500 Burbon and a 6.0 /3.73's I was getting 10-11 mpg. Weight was around 8500-9000 lbs. No passengers, only me. I realize we're talking apples and oranges here, but maybe it will give you an idea...:yesnod:

The only car I ever tow with is my 2004 Tahoe (3.43, 2WD, 5.3). When I tow the jetskis I drop 2-3 miles a gallon going 75MPH and when I tow the 6200lb boat trailer I usually drop about 6 miles a gallon (coming to about 12-13 MPG).

wow, what a difference in milage the gear ratio makes, on my 2000k mile round trip i averages 14.9 doing 80 with strong headwinds and just me.

when i tow my boat (about 5000 pounds) with six people and coolers i get about 11 doing 70mph and going up and down grades ( i go to 3 and its perfect)

jetskis i tow locally and they get me to about 13.5 with me and a bud since i only have two.

when i tow my atv's which im not really sure about the weight i see no change in milage or pick up for that matter. you dont notice loads unless their super heavy. :D

Yeah, theres even a difference between the 3.43 and 3.73's. The old Z71 was a 3.73 and we were usually getting about 16.5-17MPG with just the two of us going 70-75 on the interstate. With the 3.43 I have seen it get over 20.5 MPG going 65.
