i have a 2004 5.3 and I now have had two Chevrolet mechanics tell me different answers on the 4 wheel drive. Please help

#1 always leave the selector in full time four wheel drive or it won't work when you need it.

#2 always leave it in 2 high until you need it and then go either 4 high/low or full time, because in full time it engages the transfer case and it will prematurely wear out.

... and my mechanic suggested 2H but every month or so, put the transmission in neutral (while sitting still) and the engine running and cycle it through each of the ranges giving it 5 or 10 seconds each to complete the cycle. Ours gets serious use in 4H or 4Auto once or twice a year otherwise. As you might expect I rarely remember to do the cycling thing...
