Who has had both?

My wife is ready to trade her 4Runner in for a new Tahoe. She doesn't like to keep anything longer than about 45k miles . She has decided on a Tahoe, mine got her hooked. I have yet to drive the new bodystyle, but I have been driving my '04 for 3 years now. Is there anybody out there who has had both? My brother in law traded his '03 Yukon XL for a Suburban last month and he said he preferred the old style, but that's just one person's opinion I'm sure. Just looking for some ideas or feelings towards the new body style (ride, drive, maintinence, etc.).

I'm guessing the LT3 will be what we go with, I don't see the need in spending the extra money for the LTZ, but any opinions are welcomed and appreciated!

Well....I can speak from being a Toyota fan (still am) since I've owned an 04' Tacoma, 04' 4runner, 06 Highlander and an 06' Tacoma. I've always liked Chevy Sport utilities but never enough to buy one. The new Tahoe style really appealed to me, especially seeing lots of them in town with 22's and 24's. So after taking a trip in a rented Uplander, I decided I needed(wanted ) more room for the family for future trips. So the 06 Tacoma was sold and got a 07 Tahoe LT2 with all the goodies I needed. I get bored with my vehicles after dropping lots of money into them but I can say I will be driving this for many years. i absolutely love it. Chevy trucks and SUVs have a solid reputation from what I have seen and heard. I am a fan now. You and your wife should not hesitate to go from a 4Runner to a Tahoe.

I have been in both . The new style puts the older one to shame. Technology is way ahead compared to the 04. This new style truck is so smart it's rediculous. I mean that literally too. Get the new rig for the wife. You wont want to get back into yours........!!!

i personally never have had one nor anyone in my family but we have had a good share of nbs subs and nnbs subs/tahoes. and the nnbs are amazingly better. they ride alittle better, the steering is better, the new ones have the power rear lift option and many other options the nbs didnt have. if i were u id try n give her ur truck and get urself a new one!

Either way, I'm planning on keeping mine for a long time. I like the inside of it much better than the new body style, personally. And besides that, I have a 6 year 125k warranty that I just bought back in July. It hardly has any miles on it, I drive the Mustang more lately, a little easier on gas and I don't plan on keeping it much longer so I might as well load up the miles on it, right?

I already tried it, she told me she loved mine, but she didn't want a hand-me-down. I wanted to ask her who paid the bills :yesnod: . Anyways, if I fall in love with it I'll just trade my Mustang for another new Tahoe or Yukon for myself. Can't hurt to have three can it?

GMT800 / GMT900 - Both are great!

I may be able to answer some of your concerns / questions. I had an '04 XL Denali that we loved, and it was hard to get rid of. When the GMT900's came out, I wasn't really sold on them, as the body style was "weird" to me. The more my wife and I looked at them, the more we liked them. The NBS really had to grow on me for several months. Finally, I saw a black '07 XL Denali sitting next to me in traffic one day, and I said "man, I gotta go drive one, that thing is wicked looking!". I had been looking to replace my older daily driver, not my newer '04 XL Denali, which was in like-new condition with low miles and looked totally wicked (in my mind anyway)...

Well, going to drive a new one was what sealed the deal in my mind. The power, handling, overall performance, fit-and-finish, more organized controls and dash, and the upgraded technology (along with the convenience and safety features that made my wife and I both smile) where what sold us. For us, the '07's power fold-and-tumble second row seats and the power liftgate were to MAJOR improvements. I was really on the fence about the decision (I mean, WHY replace a vehicle that there was nothing wrong with), but I landed a deal in my work that, uh, "sweetened the pot", so we went for it. The whole family likes it much better.

Problem-wise, the '04 front differential (AWD) went bad (under warranty), but I was a little surprised that happened at all, especially at like only 21K miles. The '07 has been fine (except for a minor temporary issue I had inadvertently caused with an intake installation, messed up a vacuum hose) though it's only got like 9K miles at present.

The '04 really was awesome, and I'd have loved to have both (couldn't afford it at the time), and I'd like to be able to replace my '97 Grand Caravan with an 02-05 Denali (non-XL) in the next year or so. SO, ironically, I plan to own both again!

Choose what fits your budget. The GMT800 and the GMT900 are both excellent vehicles, you'll really like either! (I even teared up a bit when I drove off the lot in my new truck leaving the faithful '04 behind...)

That really sums up how I feel. I like the new body style, but I only have something like 35k on my 2004 Tahoe, so I really don't see the need in trading it for the new one. Besides that, like I said before, I plan on keeping it around until I drive the wheels off of it but getting a new daily driver when this one gets to about 75k.

Since my wife wants a new truck, I think it is a good time to buy a Tahoe with all of the end of the year incentives and all. Thats how I did when I bought mine, I bought it at the end of November or beginning of December 2004 during a red tag event for like $45k as opposed to the sticker price of what like $50-52?

If I just fall in love with the new one, I'll trade my Mustang for another new Tahoe or Yukon and have three in the family. I'm actually kinda hoping that I will fall in love with it .

but my dad does not like his buick enclave that much and is looking at an 07-08 suburban z71-ltz right now, we went and test drove and LOVE IT, i mean the extra 20 hp made by the NBS 5.3 makes a very good difference, i love the power fold and tumble seats and the pwr lift gate, but we have that on the enclave, but its still cool. but its light years ahead of mine even though mine is an 06 with nav and all the other bells and whisles. the dash and less snap on parts and wood trim in the ltz make it very luxurious. teh z71 has an awsome "aggressive stance" that the gmt 800s dont have. were thinking june were gunna get rid of teh old persons car, and if he does not im probably gunna trade the denali. i can not belive the feeling you get behind the wheel. KING OF THE ROAD, but i get that in the yukon, just more in a z71, but i have never had a z71 so thats the difference i guess.

I agree.. I had a 98 Tahoe and loved it.. I drove a 2003 and 2004 while it was a better driving unit it wasn't to the point I would let go of my Z71 2D but when the 2007 came out and I drove it, that is all it took. the 2004 style is nice but it doesn't compare to the 2007.

OK, back to the topic:

I had an OBS '02 4Runner up until April '07, at which point we bought an '07 Armada. Trust me, although people here at this Hoe forum might disagree, the Armada was sweet. I would put an Armada up against a Tahoe any day in nearly any category. So why did we just trade in that practically new Armada two days ago for a fully loaded Z71 Suburban? The reason comes down to lack of trunk space in the Armada, which would have been the same issue we would have had with a NBS Tahoe.

With the 4Runner you do not have a third row and therefore have a ton of space behind the second row. I resented our otherwise perfect Armada because even though it was significantly larger overall, it had much less cargo capacity than our 4Runner.

I have 3 small kids (5 yrs, 3yrs, and 4 months old) and families with kids have stuff, whether it be strollers or groceries, or any number of things. In the 4Runner we could put everthing in the back where it belongs. In the Armada (as would be with a new Tahoe) we could basically fit the stroller in the back and the rest our gear would be stowed throughout the main cabin. I always felt like a vagabond, gypsy, or Jed Clampett with grocery bags, baby bags, jackets, and other random items shoved between seat rows or inbetween the second row captain's chairs.

Of course we took a big hit trading in a pretty much new Armada for our Suburban, but I am in love and it was worth it to us. We hadn't fully considered this aspect of Armada ownership. No more gypsy mobile for me, the 'Burb holds it all in the back where it belongs.

So that's my experience. If you find that you frequently make use of the space behind your 4Runner's second row, then I highly suggest you do NOT buy a Tahoe, or any other full sized vehicle with three rows yet virtually no cargo area. Go with a Suburban/Denali XL.

Sure some people just drive around with that 3rd row removed or tumbled forward, but if that's the case, you didn't need the extra seating in the first place. We did, because 3 car seats would not fit in the 4Runner three across.

Does anyone else here share my sentiments?
