so i got tired of waiting for my headlights to come in. so today i put in my grill and did my bowtie black.

Yeah, the grill looks nice.

From the pics it looks like you are painting the front of the bow tie, are you? If so did you consider painting it from the back?

well finished the grill and bowtie.

3 coats of primer, 4 coats of black, 4 coats clear and a little wax

it will probably be this weekend before they go in, it seems i have to trim the bottom light bulb socket a little to get it to fit. and then i got to wire the halo's and extra parking light up.

i never even thought about painting it from the back. im not sure it would show through.


It's the only way to do it, there are lots of threads detailing how, I'm sure I can find one if you want. You remove gold foil and stuff from the back so it's nothing but clear plastic. Then you mask the front to avoid over spray and paint the back. That way you never get chips in the paint because it's on the back and you have a nice clear, shiny front factory look. I have a thread in hear "How not to paint your bow tie" or something like that telling how I botched it the first time, all my fault, I didn't follow the directions, and how I salvaged it. I've got some pics, look real nice. Anyway, your call, your truck, but if you want to check it out you might like what you see.
