Cold Air intake- tube?

I heard somewhere (maybe it was here) that you shouldn't buy the metal tube that's an option with some cold air intakes (like the K&N) because the metal tube heats up from the engine and thus heats the air going in. Which of course kind of defeats the whole concept.

Anybody else heard this or know it to be true?

It is true to an extent. The plastic tubes don't heat up as much as metal tubes. BUT......K&N is a plastic tube as well. Most intakes I see that are metal are the cheap ones you buy from Ebay or something along those lines. And you do lose some cool air effects due to the metal heating up.

the difference in a K&N palstic vs metal tube is about 5 Hp. the chrome tube looks fancier but I went with the plastic tube -higher hp.
