Well this weekend we took about a 400 miles trip (I am at 600 total miles on my 08 Tahoe 2wd). Filled up 2 times with E85. I have only used 3 tanks so farand I got about 14 with reg gas 75% city driving.

It was $3.70+ for Reg Gas

Tank 1:
$3.19 Gallon
17.5 mpg
(85% Hwy)

Tank 2:
$3.24
16.2 mpg
(85% Hwy)
Also my Wife drove home and she usually gets worse milage in any vehicle than I do.

Just wanted to pass along real world milage.

Ryan,

I live in Iowa so we have E85 too. I have about 1200 miles on my 'Ho and everyone is telling me that E85 gets crappy gas mileage and it's not worth it.

That sounds worth it to me, as i probably hardly get those MPG with Super Unleaded.

Quick question - can you go back and forth between E85 and normal gas and\or mixed tank?

I am pretty sure you can. I think you are supposed to switch by the tankfull rather than mixing the two like half/half..

I could be wrong though. Anyone else use it or have MPG comparisons ????

You can mix them.

What I read on another board from a tech is you should drive 7 miles after filing up so the computer can make all the correct corrections to determine % of E85.

I believe the way it works is that the vehicle can run any mixture of 85% ethanol or lower, so mixing some E85 with regular gas just reduces the percentage of ethanol.

Well though not perfect, it is still better than buying oil from people that want to kill us.

Not true.

Here's the top five countries we import from:
CANADA 1,920 1,944 1,933 1,840 1,848
SAUDI ARABIA 1,614 1,479 1,544 1,185 1,382
MEXICO 1,231 1,198 1,214 1,358 1,398
NIGERIA 982 1,163 1,075 1,061 1,085
VENEZUELA 945 1,135 1,043 1,115 1,031

Only one of those is "people that want to kill us," and I'm not worried about Canada. :gy:

I like how the media is blaming Ethanol on high food prices when it is the cost of oil has driven the cost of everything.

Also not true.

Farmers make more money buy selling their corn for ethanol production than for food. If you were a farmer, where would you sell it?

(Don't get me started on government subsidies...)
