New to Chevys in general. Just picked up a 1998 Tahoe 4door lt with over 200k on it. I noticed the stock Billistein shocks(i checked the vin for options) were still on the truck. Is there anyway they are still good. I did not see any visible signs of oil leaks or rust. The ride seems ok, its my first Tahoe and I'm assuming most of the suspension bushing are bad so I'm really not sure how to tell if the shocks are bad. Any help will be much appreciated.

Is the ride objectionable?

This a Z71?

Is the ride bouncy, normal, or stiff?

From each corner bounce the rig and see if one corner bounces more than the others, good shocks will dampen the bounces fast, worn shocks will let it rebound a couple times....

Thanks for the reply
The ride seems OK for an older SUV. Maybe a little bouncy over multiple small bumps and leans a bit when cornering. With that in mind my daily is a 1994 leaf spring Jeep Wrangler so pretty much anything seems to ride considerably better than my Jeep.
Not a Z-71 its a regular Yukon Lt
All for sides seem to respond the same to the shake test. It does seem to rebound more than the other vehicles I tried.

K, sounds like you might be to that point where you want some shocks, as far as the sway, check the sway bar links and bar itself on the front end, your rear might have one as well.. Links are prone to breaking and then you get excessive lean into corners. If you replace them, use the HD option links.

Z71's ride pretty stiff from the factory since they have off road options.

If you put some shocks on it, post back and let us know how she rides then.....
