I was reminded of this while going through the owners manual. I am the original owner of our Tahoe and recall receiving a letter testing the waters for a class-action law suit based on misrepresentation of the Tahoe's fuel capacity. The owners manual states 30 gallons but, in fact, that tank is nowhere near that large (24 gal. maybe). This came into play just after buying the truck in 1996 and running out of fuel. I read nothing else about this matter. Does anyone know if the class-action law suit continued? Has this "mis-representation" affected anyone? Cheers!

Mine is nowhere close ... unless 6 gallons are stored elsewhere. What year is your Tahoe? Mine is 1996, 4-dr, 4wd.

Mine is not a 30 gallon on our 04, maybe 26, the most fuel I have been able to force into it when completely empty is about 23.5 gallons.

I ran out of gas just after taking delivery in 1996. I could only put about 24 gallons in the tank. I have found these two links referencing tank size and the lawsuit. It may be that there are a number of different tank sizes but I recall the lawsuit being in regards to the 1996 model. I would be interested in polling the Vortec trucks, perceived tank size, body style, engine size (are there any choices?) and original state of purchase, if known. Mine would be, 1996 4-dr 4WD, 24-25 gallons and California. Thanks for the comments so far.

"Actually come to think of it, A lawsuit came out right after we purchased ours in August of 96. The sticker said it had a 30 Gallon tank when in actuality it only had a 25-26 gallon tank...I remember very clearly now. "

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-14379.html "i have a 1996. i bought it new and the brochures and owners manual say thirty gallons, but they are not. exactly how much less wasn't revealed but there was a class action lawsuit against GM for lying about the size of the fuel tank. they lost. after the lawsuit the owners manuals say 'about' 30 gallons. i wouldn't be surprised if they were only 28 or 29 gallons.
