upgrading the non bose system

I was wondering if the non bose system was just a set of speakers wired to the head unit or if they are also powered by an amp. I plan on upgrading but not sure if I want to gut it and replace it all or just install some type s speakers and a couple subs.

I have the non Bose system as well and I believe that there is an amp. It may not be very powerful but one just the same. Have you cranked up your system lately?

yeah it sounds like crap but i planned to upgrade everything but have since come to really like my 6 disk in dash.

My LS factory system can drown out some of my friends' systems and they have speaker boxes, amps, etc. That is not even at max volume.
Please define crap.
