I purchased an extended warranty today from my Chevy dealer on my 2004 Tahoe. I got a quote last time I was there for the Major Guard GMPP 4 year/100k, was over $2400.

I drove down there this morning to see what my other options are and he introduced me to the Vehicleone extended warranty. It's backed my General Motors and I got more coverage than the GMPP offers for $1540. It covers virtually everything bumper to bumper, I even asked about the flaking radio buttons, he said they would replace the whole unit and anything else wrong with the vehicle for $50 flat per visit. I got the Premium package with every additional option and it covers 100k miles/5 years. So I'll be covered until 131,200 miles and until 2013.

It just seems like a no-brainer for me. I know we put more than $1500 into my wifes '03 Z71 in the time that she owned it and we got rid of it with 103k on the clock. One or two major rapairs and it could pay for itself. I was a little bit skeptical about Vehicleone, but the dealer was pushing it more-so than the GMPP. The guy in the service dept. informed me he had it on his '02 Burb and they had never given him any trouble and had always been easy to deal with.

How many of you extended your warranty?

Ya, I was out of warranty as far as months go, but it only has 31k miles on it, so the guy that did the paperwork for me put that it still had warranty left to get me the Premium coverage. He said he never did that, but since I had bought 4 trucks from them he would cut me a break. He said the deal with Vehicleone was you could only get bumper to bumper coverage if you were still in your warranty period. I do not remember about the GMPP.

I would check into it to be on the safe side, you may be different since yours is a 2006.

I got the VehicleOne back a few months ago on mine. I think it was the Premium package 100k-60months, with all but the wear and tear package. It's been great, easy to use. The first time I used it they replaced the intermediate steering shaft (for the second time) and one of the ABS sensors. Like $600 worth of work, all I had to pay was the $50 deductible. The warranty took care of taxes and everything so I just wrote the dealer a check for $50. It's just as easy to use as the factory warranty, I'm happy with it.

Isn't it just a powertrain warranty, though? That's really an awesome deal, though, if you can find a certified that you like with a good price.

Who did you buy from? We usually buy from Team Chevrolet at Northpoint, but I've liked Bill Heard and Tom Jumper when I've brought them there for service.

Yea, it is just powertrain. I'm told i can extend my bumper to bumper warranty to 100 k miles for $800 - not sure if its worth it or not.

I bought it at Bill Heard in Buford. I've bought 3 suburbans and now this Tahoe from Bill Heard. I just really like Bill Heards way of doing business - no BS or jerking around. I'd highly reccomend anyone buy a car/truck there.

For service, I always go to Gwinnett Place Chevy. Mainly because its the closest to me. I've always been treated right there and for oil changes, etc I usually can get in and out in 20 minutes without an appointment.

I buy warranties for all my cars usually. Especially if the car has lots of bells & whistles like my Denali & Z06. Of course it's always better to have a factory backed manufacturer warranty, like GMPP. My GMPP saved my rump when my Z06's ABS computer went south, would've been $3k but I paid $0! I got a 5yr/75k miles Superior New Car Coverage Plan through my work for $1200. Because my Denali is a 03, it qualified for a New Car warranty vs. a Used one. And since I don't drive a lot, It would take me about 5 years to put 30k miles on it. My driver side window makes a clicking noise when it goes up and down, so that'll fix that.

I'm a mechanic at a small repair shop, and we see quite a few different extended warrantys. Most of them have been a joke. One time we had a car (I think it was a Kia or something) that had a bad transmission. The company wouldn't approve a new trans untill we could tell them the point of falure, but they wouldn't pay to dissamble the trans to find it out. The best part of that whole deal was a new trans was about $800. After all was said and done they wouldn't pay for anything because they claimed that they had already paid more out in claims than the car was worth. Been quite a few other situations like that. I guess you can all guess what I think about these warrentys.

I purchased an aftermarket warranty for my wife's (now sold) Audi A6 and my (traded in last week on my Tahoe) Land Rover Discovery.

If there were *ever* a couple of rigs that you'd think would need the warranty coverage, those would be it. On both rigs, I didn't come close to getting my money's worth. On my Rover I had several failures but each time there was something about what broke that wasn't covered. It was pretty frustrating.

Plus, there are quite a few shops who simply won't try and work with your warranty company. After dealing with the warranty company on the phone a couple of times, I don't blame them. Those guys don't make money by paying claims, they do everything they can to find a reason not to pay up.

Now I can see if you buy your truck from the dealer, buy the warranty from the same dealer and have all your maintenance done there too - I bet it is far easier to get claim/service work completed. In that case, I can see it making a lot more sense.

When I bought my Land Rover, I rolled the warranty cost into the financing. It increased my payment $30-$40/month and I remember thinking:
"Gee, I'm paying my insurance company $60/month in case I *maybe* have an accident. Why not pay $35/month for 'mechanical insurance' on a rig where I know something is going to break?"

Good luck with those warranties. Read the fine print and...uh...hope something breaks!

I bought an extended warranty when I got my Yukon 2 weeks ago. Coolest thing is, I'm a tech and the warranty company will pay me to fix my own truck. Pretty bad ass huh? Got the same coverage for my wife's Trailblazer.

I work for an extended warranty company, and just about all the posts I'm seeing here says that they got a bumper to bumper warranty. That is not true, I have not seen one warranty company cover components bumper to bumper.

My company is one of the biggest aftermarket warranty thats out there. I get a lot of upset customers calling when we deny components on there "bumper to bumper" agreements. The 2 major problems is that the dumba** finance guy tell the customers false information about what REALLY is covered AND the second problem is that the customers never read the contracts so they always assume since they were told that they have contract that covers everything thats what they got.:umn:

Our highest level of coverage, covers all the mechanical components except wear and tear items, trim, glass, belts, hoses, batteries anything thats maintenance related, aftermarket modifications etc, abuse or maintenance related failures. READ THE EXCLUSION SECTION

As for reasons why some of the independent shops and dealers wont accept or put down extended warranties at least from my experiance is that they tend to mark up parts and labor thinking that there going to make a quick buck and when they are brought back to reality of what the labor guide times are and what M.S.R.P is are quick to cry to the customers and bad mouth us. As for any insurance companies (HEALTH, COLLISION for example) they always want to go with the most cost effective solution if they covered everything under the sun than these companies would never exist. Our agreements only cover items that are listed and thats that.

So what I suggest is that you READ the agreement before you buy and dont just go off by what the salesman or the finance guy tells you. Because they can tell you whatever to make money from you and then your left to deal with covering what the warranty excludes or doesnt even cover. Good luck.

Wait you can pull that off? Hell i would have got warranty then.

I didn't bother, parts are cheap, it's just labor where warranty comes into play. If you can do all your own work, warranty isn't worth it imo.
