I purchased a used kenwood DDX712 double din and the kenwood KNA G510 Garmin Gps.
Having never installed a double din before ...I'm hoping to get input as to what I think is correct.
I have attached a jpg of the kenwood harness.
A is the kenwood connection.
B are the speaker wires.
C are not needed (I think)
D is a Metra 14 wire male plug.
E I dont think are needed.
F are hot/ground/reverse/parking brake/etc

My problem is the Metra connection, I am going to cut it off and discard it.
The speaker wires on 'A' would then connect to my speakers.
Vehicle is a 1999 Yukon.
Is this a no brainer or am I missing something?
Any assist is appreciated.

Almost there

Update DDX712 install in 1999 Yukon
OK...I've got the wiring harness assembled and it tested good in the vehicle without the speaker wires connected, I've finished that , but still have a few issues, hope someone can assist.
This is what I think I know so far..........
See the attached .jpg, Need some guidance for these wires.
GMC connector
A..... Orange... appears..... is not used?
B...... Blue....... power antenna ( I dont have one, does this go to rear Amp?) or just connect to 'C' ?

Kenwood DDX 712 connector
C..... Blue....... antenna motor?
D..... Brown(mute) and blue yellow (steering wheel) figure I dont need 'em.
E..... Blue/White optional power amp??????
F..... Pink/Black Ext Amp control wire????
G..... Purple/White reverse sensor I plan on installing a rear view camera, so where is the best place to make this connection?

Going to test out the speakers today.
Still waiting on my DetailSS kit, so I'll need to make a temporary fit for now.
Thanks for any help/advice ...it's needed.
Thanks

Orange is illumination on the factory side.....
Blue is PowerAntenna/Amp, Tahoe has an amp under the drivers seat to power some rear speakers, you need it powered when the radio is on, the blue wire off your kenwood.

99 Yukon DD install problem

While I was cutting out my dash to accept double din I decided to upgrade to a
DNX9980HD unit. The HVAC unit installed into the DetailSS cage with no problems. I then installed the HU and proceeded to place it in the dash to check for clearance. All is well.....I then snapped in my re-worked dash trim, again to check for fitment, Crap..:shrug:see attachment, anyone else have this problem?
I have contacted Sean @ DetailSS, and awaiting response.
This is a bummer for right now.
ANY advice is appreciated.

If that player has a CD just check to see if the antena/amp power wire works when playing CD. When i first got my truck the back factory powered speakers cut out when playing a CD because the head unit shut power off to the power antenna wire thus turning off the amp. easy fix though. biggest problem i had was the wiring diagram I had for the truck did not match the colors 100% on the truck at the speaker locations so I had to send DC voltage to every set of wires and test for Positive/Negative. Still disappointed though becasue I have Alpine 6 3/4 up front, Memphis audio 5 3/4 back doors and the memphis audio in the rear roof 4x10. I think thats the sizes but still no real bass and setup is missing some mids. I added a sub but really too harsh for me so i keep it way down and still missing some sound. Alpine head unit, alpine 4x50watt amp and 1x200watt amp for sub? all guesses for actual watts and speaker sizes but close.

Actually NOT all of them are under the driver's seat most (including mine) have it under the dash all that matter's is you connect that blue wire PowerAntenna/Amp.

Ipod cables routing

Ok I have the DNX9980HD installed and all appears to be working correctly.
I received good suggestions from Sean @ DetailSS and have resolved the fitment issue. He's a good guy willing to help with problems.

I have a problem with the Ipod cables.....
I was going to route the to the ash tray (not used) but cant find a place big enough to bundle the wires into.
Now have decided to drop them in the glove box, but still not an easy route.
Any suggestions on what to do? I know someone has dealt with the Ipod cables, I'm interested in how other folks handled them.
Any help appreciated, Ron

Installed

NICE :D i like may just wanna do it myself!

Go for it ...I like mine, I went for the Kenwood because of the Garmin GPS.

Finally got it installed, still have a few minor trim issues, but that will come in time.

I have 5 door actuators that need installed, and mirror turn signals at the same time.
Next up is the rear camera. anyone know where the reverse backup wire is in a 99 Yukon? Is there access under the dash?

Attached are a couple of progress pictures if you care to look.
Ron

I’m late to the party, but I’m trying to install a KENWOOD and looking for the wire to tap the reverse lights. Can’t figure out which one under the dash. Thank you

@skychair are you happy with your Kenwood? Would you recommend it?

Sorry for being off topic. I'm looking for a good reliable head unit for my car.
I've been looking at reviews and they are all hype. So I'm kinda undecided.

I've been looking at the Kenwood DNX995S. Found this site about the top
radio receivers
and got me more on the fence. How complicated is this unit?
I'm no spring chicken. Also how small are those buttons I have big hands?

Any tips are welcomed.
