I've gotten worse off. You have to keep working at it. Get the 3lb hammer from home depot (I think that's where I got it) and smack it from all angles. I believe it has a recessed portion that sits in the knuckle that makes it so difficult. If you see it start to separate you can try a chisel punch but just the hammer should suffice.
