What is the best time to change the oil for the 1st. time? Dealer? Thanks

Follow your owners manual. I did my first oil change, when the DIC told me to.

My Chevrolet mechanic told me that these large engines drink a lot of oil and it's not uncommon that it's about a .5 a quart before each oil change because of this he still recommends that I change the oil every 3K for longevity. I have done this to all my vehicles and have easily recieved over 200K miles on two of my vehicles following this traditional ritual.
