OK, I'm going to try to explain this noise but it's kinda hard to put it into words.

When I first open the door to the Tahoe and go to get in there's a strange squeaking or creaking electronic kind of noise inside that sounds like it's coming from the radio/nav screen area. It's not very loud and only does it for a few seconds and then stops. It's driving me crazy cause I can't figure out what it might be.

Does anyone else have this happening in their Tahoe's or is mine possessed by a tiny person trapped behind the dash crying to get out?

I'm not sure if this is what you're referring to, but everytime the door opens the NAV CD (the one behind the screen) spins up.
I believe it is trying to get a head start on the load process so by the time you get in, insert the key, and get rolling the Nav is ready for you.

To test if this is the noise, remove the Nav CD from the system (assuming you have Nav) and see if you get the same noise. My spin-up disappears with no Nav CD.

Is it when you first unlock the doors and get in? If so, it may be the nav system booting up. Sounds like when you put a CD into a player and it starts ready the disk.

Hmmmmmmm, I never thought of that but that may well be what it is. It's coming from the area of the nav screen so that's a real possibility. I'll take the nav disc out and see if that stops it and get back to you.

Thanks for the info

I hate to hijack a thread but just wondering. How do I remove the screen to get behind the dash to take the nav cd out?

In the nav menu you'll find a button on the screen that when pushed will make the whole screen pop out and open up. You can then take out the disc.
