Hello everyone..
I've read 2 articles that describes the best way to break-in new cars, actually, totally contradicting info.
got real confused, so, i drive slow sometimes, fast sometimes, to match the 2 methods!!.

Basically what you are doing is what mfg recomends. Just no full throttle crazy stuff or pulling heavy trailers.

You are supposed to drive at varing speeds. Don't accellerate too quickly or do any heavy towing.

2007 Chevrolet Tahoe - 4WD

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Vehicle Break-In
Notice: Your vehicle does not need an elaborate break-in. But it will perform better in the long run if you follow these guidelines:

• Keep your speed at 55 mph (88 km/h) or less for the first 500 miles (805 km).

• Do not drive at any one constant speed, fast or slow, for the first 500 miles (805 km). Do not make full-throttle starts. Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle.

• Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles (322 km) or so. During this time the new brake linings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in guideline every time you get new brake linings.

• Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See Towing a Trailer for the trailer towing capabilities of your vehicle and more information.

Following break-in, engine speed and load can be gradually increased.

What always confused me about this process is the fact that these vehicles sometimes get abused during test drives by prospective buyers. I took an 07 Esky for a test last year, and the sales guy told me to floor it and see how fast it would go. Of course I obliged, all the way to 110MPH. It had under 50 miles on it, and I had several WOT starts and one or two hard stops. Makes me wonder how hard mine was thrashed before I got it. :eek2: Was the sales guy irresponsible, or was I? Hmmm....

one reason i like to order cars and instruct the dealer not to let anybody near it, much less get in it. if they would let me i would drive it off the truck.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure mine was well-treated. It was an order that came in for a customer at a dealer 150 miles away from me, and the customer had to back out of the deal 3 days after they got the truck. It had 162 miles on it when I took delivery, as I recall... :) Almost as good as ordering it myself. I just hope those 12 miles weren't done at 110MPH. :D

ok we got off topic, i would break it in to specs, just so they dont say you did somthing wrong with the brake in if you have trouble

i had 30 on my yukon and 3 on my sierra (i custom ordered the sierra) but the dealer is in the middle of knoware, so im sure it was 15 miles each way to get gas, the tank was full when i bought it, i saw it on the internet, called them up and bought it sight unseen, drove 5 hours through dc to hagerstown, said good bye to my 99 (cried a little:cryin: ) then hoped in the yukon, got instantly happy again and drove home at 50mph the entire way.

my tahoe only had about 9 miles on when I bought it. I know it was not abused, heck they had just taken off the truck when I showed up. :yesnod:

i guess sometimes the cure is worse than the sickness

ok so according to 73 shark

first you go in to shock, then you become embarrassed, then you shake you head, roll your eyes, get a sad face, throw up, and then someone beats you up with a stick:smilielol: :smilielol: um i think i would break it in right LOL.

but what really happens is, you get a bunch of problems, engine probably wont last as long as it should, same with tranny and brakes and suspension, gears will whine. to sum it up it will be like a ford truck with a chevy badge:smilielol:
