Yes, it will work with your 2000.
The filter helps with the air you breathe, but won't cause any harm to the hvac system if you don't use them. You may notice a quicker accumulation of dust in your vents and cabin in general though.

The cabin filters for the vehicles are finer than the 'glass home filters, so they trap more dirt and particles from an outdoor enviroment.

You'll have to look underneath the passenger dash and remove the panel. The access door for the filter has two 7mm screws. Remove this and there should be two filters. Keep in mind this is only available on the 00-02 models.

Why not do it the right way, its not alot of work, its actually simple for even people that are less mechanically inclined. Unless you like that 70"s pimp aroma eminating from you vehicle.
