Engine light on when truck isnt started?

Hey.. I've got a question, I'm looking to buy a tahoe and I looked at one I really liked the other day.. The only thing is, when I put the key in the engine light was on.. As soon as I started it up, it turned off..

Is this normal...? I've never seen a car do that before. By the way its a 2004

that happens on mine. when you just turn the key in to a run but dont crank, mine has a bunch of lights go on, and they stay on as they cant do the system check as the engine aint running. completly normal. :thumbsup:

That's normal.

That is normal for all OBD II vehicles (1996-up). In fact, if you turn the key to the On position and the car is not started and the Check Engine light (MIL) is NOT on, there is something wrong with the car and if you have emissions testing where you live it won't pass.
