im going to change my gear ratio in my yukon....a local salvage yard near my house says that they have the front diff w the gear that i want ...is their any numbers,codes or markings on the diff to make sure that they are not mistaken.....any info would be a great help thanks

- Well, if it is coming out of a Chevy, around the same year model - than there are RPO codes in the glove box - other wise, its back to counting teeth...

have them pop the cover on the diff.
the gears will usually be stamped with the # of teeth and you can get a ratio from that.
they could spin the flange and see how many revs it takes to spin the tires but that wont be as accurate. sometimes it can be hard to tell a 3.73 from a 4.10 due to slop in worn out diffs.
