Hey guys I was looking through the LMC catalog today and noticed they had performance catbacks in there but they were only for suburbans. I really want the system they had in there but they don't sell it for my denali. Their system was basically straight pipes off off the cat flange to 2 big resonator tips. How loud would it be if I did this? and how loud would it be if i just went with straight pipes to tips without resonators? thanks guys

It would be very loud. You might even fail a legal state inspection with no mufflers (I may be wrong though, the cats might dull it down enough). I believe the legal sound limit for exhaust noise is like 96 dB.

I don't have inspections here in Illinois because my truck is 10 yrs old. But do you think even with the resonator tips, it would be real loud?

yeah. no muffle-muff=super loud on power. Try it, and if its too much, bring it down with some mufflers.

Yea we'll see how it sounds and if its too much I'll throw some super 44's on it. Thanks.

On a side note:
Hey treepete do you have any pics of your truck? list of mods? I am curious to see what you've done to your Denali since we basically have the same truck. Thanks again.

i just installed a supper 44 on my 99 yesterday and damn its music to my ears. I do want to "gut" the cat out now but dont know if it will cause the truck to run any different but I do know it will make that super 44 sound even better. Don't want it TOO loud as it is our primary family vehicle although it could drawn out all the kids and wife noise. Hhhmmmm.

I left the stock cat in which has a dual inlet/outlet this leads to the dual inlet flowmaster with dual outlet and then ran both tailpipes out the rear 30" chrome tips. It is by no means loud but it does growl like all chevy 350's should. I do not have any pics due to my camera getting "misplaced" by my wife but when I get another I will post some. The more I think about it I wish someone would have talked me into getting the true dual setup. Man that would have pissed off the old lady.:yesnod:

I can't find a 2 in/out super 44 online anywhere. Got a link? What do you guys think a dual in/out muffler or two single super 44's which would be true duals?

this has been my question also. I've heard if you have true duals, an H pipe is better (evens flow between sides). would a dual in/out muffler not be like an H pipe?

Gutting a cat will throw a trouble code from the rear o2 sensors for low catalyst efficiency or some such. Rear o2 sensors on all GMs as I understand it (someone correct me if i'm wrong) have no input on anything, closed loop engine management stuff, injector pulse or...anything, they're simply there to throw a code to show the cat isn't working. (you can put a resistor in place of the rear o2s if you don't like the light on the dash) you'll still go into closed loop same as before and timing, ipw and everything else stays the same.

Speaking of gutting cats...can it be done on a tahoe by a guy with just a ratchet, no sawzall and welder involved? those pipes look awful curvy. I want to do my part in going green, can't afford a prius, don't want to buy an obama sticker for it, getting some better mpg with no cats sounds good.

and weird, I thought everyone of us had 2 cats but you have a dual in dual out?

I dunno maybe it was redone by a previous owner. I do know they make a "ghost" sensor for the check engine light. By cutting the cat out you could save gas and money by getting better gas milege and of course more torque or at least I did on my pickup. that's what I call going green. :) I know it says I'm a newbie but I have been reading many articles on this site and I've got to say it has been a great help knowing my hoe isn't the only one with problems such as saggy door syndrome (SDS).:sla:

I just got this 2000 Limited Edition Tahoe, and I love it! However, I am having a problem with too much backpressure from the factory exhaust that is on there. It is so bad it I thought it was a transmission problem at first, so I checked the fluid and it was on the low side. Then I had a day of symptom free driving and this morning going up hills it was like the trans was not getting power to the rear wheels and the truck actually slowed down going up hill twice. To end a long story I gassed it hard enough to get it to backfire. Just to make sure that this was indeed a backpressure problem, I took it to a trans specialist who is a family friend and he drove it and got the same symptom and agreed that I probably need new mufflers/ cats. This was good news to me that it is not a trans problem, and I can justify spending the money on the loud exhaust that I am going to put on it.

I am new to Tahoes from the Mustang world, ( I just traded a tricked out 2000 Mustang
GT even for this bone stock Limited Edition 2000 Tahoe. ) and as I looked under Tahoe today I realized it is not going to be as easy to modify this exhaust as it was my Mustang, on which I just cut out the factory mufflers and had 2 Flowmaster 40 series welded in. (Mustang GT's come dualed out from the factory.

I would like some input on how I should go about this exhaust mod. I want it dualed, and I want it as loud as I can have it without getting a ticket every time I pass a police car. I have two inlet's going into the factory muffler and I have one exhaust pipe in the factory location. Like I stated above, I want it loud and dualed, so any input you guy's can give me would be much appreciated!
