The cam timing could have been it, like you described is what I had on that Grand Am and it had skipped a tooth......

I take it you have heard of a Case Learn? I dont know if you should do one on the black bear PCM, but if it is going in I wouldnt do one on the stock one.....

im looking at the cloyes timing pictures, and the advance vs factory timing marks looks like its way more then just 4 crankshaft degrees. Red is factory timing mark and keyway. yellow is advance mark and keyway. since the crank rotates 1:1 that should be way more then 4* at the crank. right? that looks to be around 45* of rotation?

i have. but why would i need to do a case learn on the original ecu? nothing changed other then the battery being unplugged for a month now. but its still the original ecu. CASE is just for crank angle right? and to prevent the misfire code. a security issue would be the one preventing an engine start i believe

Crank angle would be changed with a new timing set....

no not yet. i had to do few things and gave up on stuffing it in right now. and do to some circumstances im going to either sell/part it out.
