I was wondering if anyone has taken thier cataltic convertors off. I am aware the SES light will come on but black tape over the bulb will fix that. I just wondered if it will affect the running of it.

If your state has inspections or you may ever need exhaust work done you might want to think about that. Take it off and cut it. Place the shell back in its place. This allows the shell to act just like the replacement piece of tubing you would put in there. I did it to my 84 Camaro and it sounds mean.

I am not worried about emissions test. I just wondered if the tahoe would run right with out them...

taking the cats off and cleaning them out has no effect on the sound of the exhaust.. to make it louder.. and cats give you 5 horsepower.. soo technically taking them off does nothing for you. there expensive to replace, especially if there in the Ypipe.. the y pipe and cat for mine was well over 300 bucks.. i doubt it will make your hoe run "right", if anything jsut another thing to do.. im pretty sure cats will have no affect on your hoe to make it run better

You couldn't be more wrong. Cat's hinder performance and definitely change the sound considerably.

as far as i know, ive taken the cats off my car and no deffently not a single noise change in it.. idk maybe itll change on certain cars i dont know.. but it never changed on mine.. and well then again i guess it could change if you get a aftermarket cat or not.. your supposed to change your cats every 70,xxx miles... when u change it im sure u get that all back.. but changing your cat will have nothing to do to make it run "righter".. no ones even asnwered his question anyways.. and i sure as hell dont know it and i stated what i do no about cats.. im a dealer and i dont need e checks, but id i did take the cats off for some reason and i would then later sell the hoe, alot of ppl would rather want the cat back on it..

If you take your cats off, you will get slightly better exhaust flow, louder exhaust, and an SES light. The SES will most likely be for the 02 sensor reading after the cats being off. You can drop in straight pipes and get the SES programmed out. Removing them will not harm your car, but it won't make it run much "better" either.

The sound would change with them removed but you dont always gain power. I actually lost power because I lacked backpressure on my 4.3 S10 with them removed. If you do remove them, dont be a hack and use the black tape trick. Get an o2 spoof from any High Performance store..

How can you say that cleaning them out has no effect and that you should just take it off all together to gain anything. Cleaning them out is the exact same as taking it off. All you do is put the shell back up there, if you take it off what are you putting back up there. A new piece with no restrictions, which is exactly what it would be with just the shell there. Cheaper, Easier, and gets the EXACT same gains or losses

I always looked at Back pressure to be a myth. I see cars all the time running open headers at show's and on the track to GAIN power due to no restriction. What makes your engine any different?
