I have an early model year 2007 Tahoe with 110,000 miles. This truck was originally used in NH and probably saw 40,000 miles on NH salted highways in its first few years of use. Recently I noticed a smell of gas and within a couple days fuel was dripping from under the truck around the drivers side passenger door. This became a massive leak the next day spraying fuel all over. The fuel line failed at the outlet line of the fuel pump (top of tank where you cannot see it) due to rust and corrosion of the fuel line where it exists the top of the pump. See attched pictures.

I thought owners should be aware of this pending potential issue. I dropped the tank and replaced the pump and all is well again. When changing out the pump, be sure to purchase a new locking ring and swap the fuel level sensor over to the new pump. Also be sure to note the position of the sensor wires where they plug into the sensor, there are 3 holes and only two cables. One arrangement will not work. Don't learn the hard way as I did.

Personally I would have bought a whole new unit complete with the sensor for gauge. To much work to just swap over. I have seen where a swap over was done and then a sensor that had been working all of a sudden wasn't and then had to drop tank again.

I used to live in K.C., Mo. and saw the salt damage firsthand. I live now in Eugene, Or. and we don't use salt on the roads here. You can see old vehicles all over on the roads with no rust at all unless that vehicle stays on the coast all the time.

Yes that would've been nice. The new AC Delco fuel pump did not include the tank level sensor. Instructions specifically stated to swap. I'm sure that's a separate part number that could be ordered however. Would make sense if they just sent it all as one..!
