I need as much info about the intake manifold gasket as possible.
ie: how easy is it to do at home?
is it normally the upper or lower gasket that goes out?
any special tools i will need?
any special tips or things to look out for?

Not that hard if you’ve changed intake gaskets before.

With me it was the lower one. I took the upper piece a part to clean in thoroughly, but it was a little pain to get it a part (watch the wires).

Just a good set of tools will do the job; I don’t remember needing anything special.

Mark all connections, and take notice where everything came from. Some digital pictures couldn’t hurt.

A service manual can be helpful.

It is going to be time consuming, especially if you don’t do this time of work much.

Make sure you replace the heater hose quick disconnect with a steel one. Remove the old one BEFORE you pull the LIM off. If it breaks, you'll have an easier time working on it while the manifold is off the engine.
