Greetings! New member here.

I stumbled across this forum searching for input/experience swapping out the rear glass hatch on the tailgate of my 02 Tahoe.

I've got a salvage piece of glass from the junkyard, but can't figure out how to remove the pins from the hinges to remove the old glass hatch and install the new one. There was a member on here that mentioned he worked for AutoGlass or Safelite that had directions.

Like some of you may have experienced, the current hatch hinge has separated from the glass.

I appreciate it.

I am a new member myself. I noticed that this forum is not like my Jeep Wrangler Forum. I have searched a lot of posts, and many go un-answered.

I just bought a used 2004 Tahoe 4.8 LS.

I will be taking off my rear glass soon to attempt a repair of one of the hinges which has broken.

From what I understand, the plastic frame/hinges are molded to the glass, and some of these have failed frequently.

Did you find your answer?

I'm shure even the Jeep forum has sections dedicated to certain year models, such as this section (the 1994-2000 year model section.) Not many newer rigs get as many answers in an older section.....

Unfortunately, I could not find a good answer to my question.

I was fortunate enough to find a local mechanic that was a former Chevy dealer mechanic. I had a salvaged piece of rear glass with hinges that he installed. He recommended NOT to use the glass hatch opening frequently as the hinges do fail based on a poor overall design.

My repair has been holding now for several months. I even use the glass occasionally. I used 3M autoglass urethane to re-bond the metal bracket back to the rear hatch glass.
