Are 2011 tire pressure sensors detectable from the outside.?? The sensors on my 2007 are an aluminum stem with a nut to hold it in place. I'm told the 2011sensors are different and look like a conventional tire stem from the outside.
Any help is appreciated.

They look like a conventional stem but a have a rounded plastic cap at the tip, similar to the end of a football... When you remove the cap, the metal part (with the threads is almost as wide as the rubber and then tapers in where the threads are...
The ones with the metal are a single piece with the monitor, but the new ones screw onto the valve stem inside the tire...

It you remove a normal black plastic valve stem cap, you can tell cause the tpm ones are noticeably bigger too. If you try to screw a normal cap onto the tpm stem, there will still be brass showing below the threads...
