after taking my truck to the dealer for some repairs on them dastardly wheel sensers it has been confirmed that my u joint is toast he quoted me roughly 285 for repairing it you think thats about right?

Which U-Joint? I would remove whichever driveshaft the u-joint is a part of and go to a machine shop or driveline shop. That way, it will only cost 50$ or so.

rear and i dont have the know how to do it myself or the tools or the space to do it beleive me i wish i did....
