I'm proud of my Hoe 2000 Auto 4wd.

Is there anyone here that know alot about this 4wd system?
While hanging on snow, I discovered that only one front and one back wheel was spinning, either 4HI,Auto or 4Lo was engaged. Thought the 4 Lo was supposed to engage diff.lock on front and back axles.

Any explanation is good for me. Also, is there blueprints of this mechanical and maybe electrical blueprints out there for me?

only the rear has a diff lock because its the only axle on the truck. im not sure about 4lo auto engaging it but the front will only spin one wheel at a time because it is IFS

IFS is Independent Front Suspension. Rear har a solid axle. I don't know if an IFS can have a locker, but on my 2004 Tahoe there is a limited slip diff on the rear which "locks" the rear diff. I think it only engages below 20mph and with limited thottle.

IFS is independent front suspension. the wheels are powered by two smaller "axles" called CV joints. Im pretty sure with IFS it can change back and forth between wheels but not both at one time. i no the rear axle doesnt have a locker because it can be locked on demand. what it has is limited slip.

You have to check if you have a locking rear diff. I think it the option code is G80

That will only lock your rear axle remember. The front is still an open diff so one will can still spin while the other does nothing

Stock limited slips are crap on these truck and you can't run a legit locker on the front due to the disconnect nature of the ifs on these trucks. Your clutches could be worn on your stock limited slip, or it's just a pile of crap like the 1,000,000 other gov-locs that don't work for sh*t. I'd look at getting a detroit trutrac limited slip, they're helical gear and aren't prone to the failures or shock loads like the stocker.

in other words, my own fault. Discovered strange sound in the back. Spinning easily in 2wd mode. So it comes to a diff-change.
Got a lock from another Chev 5.3. THINK its a G80.
Does the Yukon use the same diff? Got a yukon diff in my "shed" too.

Inserting a detroit truetrac should be the best....

Btw, thanks for your help boosta.

how easy is it to install and uninstall this diff?
Do i need any special tools, is it enough to remove diff cover and work inside?
