Good evening, I had a bad happening tonight, unsure still if it was avoidable or not...

I replaced all the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap & rotor.. all came off fine, everything changed and was working on the last few screws..

There are two screws that hold on the distributor cap to the dist. The front one went in fine (put it in maybe 1/2 way so I could easily position and start the back screw). When I went to put in the back screw, it started, with little to no resistance, it then snapped... :ack: It is currently broke off, flush on the distributor, these are cheap little screws, but I have a feeling the distributor replacement isn't!

Any ideas? those who have a similar truck [97 Yukon here 5.7L Vortec] knows there isn't alot of room back there, I doubt I could get a drill back there to drill it out and retap it, but perhaps that is worth a try?

Can anyone give me any suggestions? Looking your way too marinekilz! at least I know you can provide some illustrations and direction!

I appreciate any/all help.. I need the truck running soon.. tonight or tomorrow would be livable! :eek2: Thanks again!

Alright, did some looking/hunting.. and it appears that the distributor can be removed with just one bolt on top of the manifold?? Obviously replace washers/seals and understand how to keep the timing the same... but is it that simple to remove? now that I already have the plastic intake pieces moved out of the way? :) Let me know if you know. Thanks!!

Up and running again, just had to get the confidence up I guess.. I loosened the bolt, removed the dist. and easily drilled out the screw that was in there, as well as ensured the cap would go on smoothly this time. ;) Much better, power and torque were noticably better, not that the 2 degree weather didn't help. :)
